Here is the first part of a how-to on low budget bow making. These bows will easily kill rabbits and similar sized game. they are a lot of fun to make. First you need to find a good choice of wood. The only two I have used are ohiodnr.com/forestry/trees/beech_bl/tabid/5337/Default.aspx and ohiodnr.com/forestry/trees/elm_slpry/tabid/5366/Default.aspx. These are excellent woods, with the slippery elm (Red Elm) being slightly more preferable. You will need a round branch about 1 1/4 inches in diameter. I have found it makes little difference whether you leave the bark on, so that's what I do. Now first of all you will need to taper the ends down to about 1 inch for about two inches in.

Sounds interesting Matt. I will anxiously be waiting for the next part and hopefully there will be some pictures.

How are you coming with the bow Matt? Or did you get side-tracked? That's what happens to me sometimes when I start something and then I'll get back to it later and finally finish it up.

Sorry, I had a bow complete but it cracked on me. As soon as I get a new one done then I will show you. I like to do things like that all at once so I will try to get around to it soon.

I made a bow once that could shoot about 100ft. It wasn't too pretty, but it worked...... for awhile.
