Here is a picture of some pin-fire shells that I have had around for many years. I thought some one here might be interested in seeing some pictures of them. I think they might be 32 cal. or maybe 9mm. What do you think? Love to hear your comments.

Hey Rohn. Those are pretty rare from what I hear. I did a bit of research on these, some of the calibers that they came in were 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, and 11mm. There may be more but that was all I could find. The pinfire cartridge was invented by a Frenchmen named Casimir Lefaucheux in 1828. The pinfire cartridge was the forerunner to the modern center/rimfire rounds. These rounds made reloading easier and faster but was met with skepticism because of the fact that it was primed at all times unlike the muzzleloaders of the day. But after a couple of years these became quite popular in Europe.
You are lucky to have those Rohn, those are great pieces of history.
Where did you get those?

Thanks for the comments and history lesson on those cartridges Justin. I bought a bunch of reloading stuff about 30 years ago and these were in it. Without going to check I think I have 8-10 of them.

I love those! well if you wantto know, just check the diameter. if it is 3/8, then 9mm.if about 308 then about 7.5mm. and so on.

Hey Rohn, did you buy the reloading kit for a gun that shoots these? No Justin, none of the reloading stuff I bought would reload pin-fire shells. I don't think pin-fire shells would be re-loadable.

If they were it would kind of be like a reloadable muzzleloader.

Hey Rohn. You are right that they aren't reloadable. But there are first-time reloading kits for pinfire rounds. I don't know if they still make the kits, but they used them to make ammo for the pinfire guns after centerfire and rimfire rounds came out on the market.
So has anybody ever seen a pinfire gun in person?
