I saw a very interesting method of gardening that was supposedly used by the indians to grow corn, beans, and squash all together in the same plot, and I thought I'd give it a try. Tell me what you guys think. I placed the corn ("Bodacious" I believe) in hills of about 12-16 seeds surrounded by about 8 bean seeds ("Kentucky wonder pole"). I then planted squash seeds (Mainly pumpkin) in between the corn hills. The logic is that since the corn is in groups it has better chances of pollination, the beans climb the corn and provide the corn with nitrogen, and the squash's leaves shade the soil, holding water inside, so less watering is required for the corn.... Or at least that is what is supposed to happen I don't know if it will do any good, but I figure it's worth a shot. Any of you guys ever do anything like this? Edit: I'll get pictures on tomorrow. I'm trying to resize the pics and my software acts up. Nothing working today.

I never heard of that but it seems reasonable to me. Back when we had a large garden I planted my corn in squares not rows and it did great with better pollination.

Update: This is a picture form one week ago... I always forget to bring my camera to the garden... And here is a closeup of a "Delicata" Winter squash planted in the Indian garden...

Matt, your garden is looking very good. We put in a bunch of tomatoes and peppers and some beans plus a bunch of other stuff. The problem is it has rained quite a bit and my garden is too muddy to work in. So the weeds are growing faster than the crops.

Sounds like you're having the same problem as we are here Rohn.
It rained real hard last week and now I got grass growing in my garden... Lots of grass.
The worst part with grass is that you can't just hoe it out.... Either have to till it or pull it by hand.
