Ordered seeds today from Seed Saver's Exchange. They should be here in a week or two. In the meantime I am going to be making a lot of newspaper planting pots to start them in. With this frigid cold weather it is a good time to stay indoors and drink a hot cup of tea and rock in my chair and think about my spring garden.

I agree! I'm not a very good gardener, but I sure love cucumbers and peppers! The only things that I can grow! Hahaha
What all did you get Rohn?

Sounds good. I have bought some SSE brand seeds at the local feed store and they did pretty well. They were from a heirloom watermelon that we probably planted too late, because none of the flowers set fruit. Maybe not enough bees or a vitamin deficiency, I can't figure it out. The plants were great though. They got 20 foot long and flowered like crazy.
I haven't done to bad with corn either. We had so much we were starting too get overwhelmed. I think the easiest thing to grow around here though is potatoes. We planted three 20' rows in mid May, hilled them up and by August we had about 70lbs of potatoes. No watering required and tons of crop. Turnips have to be the next easiest. We did well with them.

Sounds delicious! I've never tried growing beets, are they difficult?

My Grandpa grew some beets this year that did pretty well. I would suspect that, as a member of the turnip family, they would be easy but I have never tried growing them. I will have to this year because I love pickled beets.

Beets are great to grow. Get them in early and after they come up thin to about 3 inches apart. Pickled are great, I also like them boiled until tender with a bit of salt and butter.
