www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-20It shows the total murders, and the devices that account for them. The majority of crimes in Ohio, for example, are committed with handguns, which is 187, of the 344 homicides committed by firearms. The next highest was the "unknown type", at 136. Rifles only accounted for 8, and shotguns for 13. This shows that the "Assault Weapon Problem" we are supposed to have does not exist, at least in Ohio. Here is the 2010 murder rates by state, and the (lawful) gun ownership rates alongside them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States_by_stateIt shows the District of Columbia has the highest rate of murder by firearm in the country, followed by Louisiana. It also shows that Vermont, the state with the loosest gun control laws, has the fewest gun murders per 100,000. (0.3)

I will never understand why people can't understand that guns don't kill people. Because of a few murders they want to ban certain guns is beyond my understanding. Why leave the law abiding citizens in the hands of the criminals? Why should we be left vulnerable to the wicked people of this world and have no way to defend ourselves? It has been proven over and over again that more guns in the hands of the law abiding citizens equals less crime. When guns are outlawed then I guess I'll be an outlaw.

I have the same view. I could not bring myself to turn in my possessions. But it will not only be your guns, but your house, cash, and everything else that could be pawned or otherwise bring some cash or enjoyment to the ones taking your guns. If we lose our guns, we lose our right to happiness, our right to say what we think, and for those like me, our freedom, if not our lives.

When you look at the actual murder rate in the country you can see that guns aren't as much of a problem as the Liberals make them out to be.
I don't think if you took away all gun control, the murder rate wouldn't go up much, if any.

Another thing is that these murder rates usually include suicides.
When the burglars and murderers go to commit their crimes, and the would-be victim kills them, then no more murder rate. So if the government would provide a small tax break for owning over 3 handguns and training yourself and your family to use them, we would be on the road to zero crime. I know that is a fantasy, but that is what it takes, along with no gun control, harsh penalties for crimes, and a expanded castle doctrine law on the national level. Then, adding to that give an incentive to those along the border for owning assault rifles, (Not fake ones, but real, fully automatic military quality weapons, then we could cut down substantially on drug related border crime.
I guarantee this would work. There would be a crime rate lower than anywhere else on the planet.

That brings up an interesting point. Most of the crime in this country is drug related. So if you could stop the drug trade then you wouldn't have as much of a violent crime problem.
If our government would focus on the source of the problem, then we could solve the problem we face.
