I don't know what is the problem with congress. They have been dragging their feet for the past few years on a budget just because they think the senate won't pass it. Don't worry if they won't pass it. Don't you guys think they would be more credible if they just keep putting forth budgets until one is passed? They need to just cut what they need to. Everything that is not vital. Just attack as much of our debt as possible. Obama may say that "raising the debt ceiling doesn't mean we will increase our national debt...", but to believe they mean that then you would have to be pretty ignorant. I just think that if they would try to get their act together and do a good, usable budget, wouldn't they be more likely to be reelected even if it didn't pass?

What happens when we spend more money that we bring in? You can't keep doing it and ever expect to see people to do that very long and keep their heads above water. The federal budget should be run just like a household budget, spend more that you make and you go broke. If the leaders of this country saw they were not going to get paid because the country is broke, it wouldn't take a week for things to start changing. But when you can vote your own pay raise, then be paid the rest of your life even if you are never elected again, vote how other people have to live and not worry because you know you don't have the health plan everyone has to use. Back when Harry Truman was president, he didn't take any handouts for doing his job. While in office he bought his own stamps and licked them himself. When he went out of office he went back home to the small house he lived in before becoming president. Now if you are elected to a federal position you don't have to worry about money the rest of your life.
OK time for me to get off my soap box!

I agree guys. The Republicans should construct a budget that will actually work and submit it to the senate and the president.
If the government would use common sense, and spend only what it takes in, then we would be out of the hot water we are in now. I think the only way that we will ever recover from our national debt is when the government tries to take more money from the people than they can afford to give. Then people won't just take the abuse anymore, they will force the government to do things the right way.
