Went shooting today with my little Davis “derringer” type handgun. It is a .22 Magnum with 2 ¾ “ barrel. That leaves only 1 ½ “ of barrel after the bullets are inserted.
I really wanted to see how it would shoot and record the success. First I shot it at 10 feet from the target. The black on the target is 5.5” on this first target. The furthest distance between shots is 3.25”. I shot 10 shots off hand.
I moved back to 15 feet and shot this second target, again 10 shots off hand It did not turn out quite as good. Blame that on the shooter. The widest spread on this target was 4 inches. I was using up some targets I picked up at the NRA show a couple of years ago. They were giving them out as a promotion so I didn’t have the same size targets for this test. This one has a black center of three inches. It was actually the group sizes that I was interested in anyway.
I remember when I first got this little gun that the trigger pull was so heavy that I couldn’t shoot it without shaking. I took it home and began to work on it. I filled the hammer where the trigger mechanism meets it and the put it back together and tried it. It was better but still too heavy a pull. I took a sharpening stone and polished it a little bit. Then tried I it again, that did the trick, it was perfect. (I do not have a trigger pull gauge so I am not sure of the pull weight).
It was fun doing this gun test and I hope you find it as interesting as I did.

That is a cool little gun you have there Rohn. I have seen the Cobra Arms derringer, but I've never heard of the Davis. You made some good shots there too. I imagine that it is hard to hang on to a gun that size.

Nice Davis Rohn. I have seen the 38 in that model but have never fired one. Not a bad grouping for that short barrel!

This little gun is not hard to shoot even though it is small. Being a .22 Mag there is not much recoil. If it was a .38 special that would be a different story. I am actually looking at North American Arms mini revolvers and may be purchasing one of these in the near future. If I do I'll to a full report on it too.

That would be great Rohn. That is the first range report I have heard derringer, and I am looking forward to future ones. What caliber are you thinking of trying?

22lr is coming back around here. I was at the local gun store yesterday and I saw they a couple bricks of Remington. They wanted $50 for it, but it was, at least, in stock. If you see any 22. at walmart they still have fair prices.
Have any of you guys found any reasonable 22.?

About a month ago I bought some at Cabela's in Wheeling WV, 400 rounds $25.00. I think I posted about it here.

Ohh yeah. I remember you saying that now. That's an awesome deal! I think before long the manufacturers like Winchester, Federal and Remington will put out enough that the price will go down. I want to take couple shots with my Mossberg 802, but I am not about to shoot off the last of my brick unless I know I can get more. For cheap if possible.
