I never have but thought about it years ago. You may have seen this video before with the Moose vs Archery hunter. The Moose nibbles on the arrow. Beware: Don't read the comments under the video. They are ugly! Some folks just can't say anything without getting dirty.

I'll bet that hunters heart was thumping hard. I know mine would have been. No comments appeared below the video, so that is good.

I bet he almost had a heart attack! I have never done any bow hunting. And judging from my archery skills, I probably never will .

I know a-lot of people who do it, and they all say that you see the biggest deer during bow season. If I did get into bow hunting I would use a compound bow. Most the guys I know use crossbows, but I think it is to much like gun hunting for me. There is a local paper I look at called "The Bulletin Board" and it always has tons of quality bows for sale. I could get one out of there for as little as $200 for a decent bow. The hardest part of bow hunting for me would be sitting still. I like to sneak up and down hills and down through valleys when I hunt. You can't do that when you're bow hunting though.

Yea, but you could sneak up on one, I can't. The best way to deer hunt is to just stand by a tree with all the leaves kicked off in a circle around the tree. Either that or just shoot it off your porch. (My method).

Justin, I have been checking out bow prices on ebay and craigslist. That "bulletin board" paper you mention, I have seen it and pick it up when I can. I'll have to get one and see if there are any in this area. I am thinking of hunting with a long-bow or re-curve, although I am considering compound too. I am just not sure what I'm doing yet. I have been checking out 3riversarchery.com . They handle only longbow and re-curve bows. It is a very interesting site with lots of information. I also had them send me a catalog. So we will see what happens. If I like what I see and can afford to maybe I'll give archery a try.

I think archery hunting would be a great experience. You get so close to the deer, and you have to be very patient, so you are sure of your shot.
And another good thing about bow hunting it is that if you miss you wont scare off all the deer.

I recently borrowed a Horton HD150 Crossbow from my friend. It has a 150 pound draw weight, and it comes with a red dot sight and three arrows. I am considering buying it. It shoots pretty accurately.
I'll do a range report on it soon.

Are crossbows used in OH for hunting? Don't think they can be used for hunting here in Tennessee.

The bow season is actually longer than the gun season here. Sometimes I consider getting an out of state licence for West Virginia, then I could use my rifles.
